CulvertSense maps road crossings of watercourses that sit within Environment Agency flood-risk zones, helping identify where culverts may be at risk of blocking, surcharging, or contributing to flood events.
Each marker represents a location where a road crosses a watercourse within a medium or high flood-risk area. Markers are coloured by flood risk and sized by priority score (1–5) based on multiple risk signals including previous flood history, proximity to critical infrastructure, and housing density.
How we built this dataset:
Road and watercourse geometries were intersected spatially using OS Open data. Crossing points that fall within EA Flood Zone 2 or 3 polygons were retained. Each crossing was then scored against additional risk signals to produce a priority 1–5 ranking.
